One of my favorite perks when I lived in Chicago was that there were so many cool weekend trip options. Last summer I finally took a weekend trip to the land of beer and cheese–Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I visited breweries old and new, the architecturally magnificent Milwaukee Museum of Art, and the Fonz amongst wandering the streets of downtown.
Here’s a little photo diary of the trip:
The Pabst Brewery has long been shut down, having been bought out, but a number of the buildings remain. Many of the structures in the massive complex have been repurposed into the likes of a hotel, condos, event spaces and bars, but some have been left untouched.
After chatting with a member of the gift shop staff, I ended up getting an unofficial private tour of the buildings. We explored construction areas, dilapitated corridors, and the old bottling plant (shown below), which is owned by another company and usually blocked off even to the staff.
